The City of Mississauga is on the lookout for 20 new firefighters.

Starting Oct. 2, the recruitment period for will open for two weeks. Candidates with valid Ontario fire administration candidate testing service certificates are encouraged to apply.

What would make you a preferred applicant?

The list includes: firefighter training or certification; previous experience in fire suppression and prevention, mechanical trades, construction, emergency services and operating heavy equipment; lifeguard certification; occupational health and safety training; climbing skills; medical or emergency service certification; volunteer or community involvement; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) training; and confined-space training.

Applications will be accepted until Oct. 15 and selected candidates will be contacted to schedule first-round interviews.

Successful candidates will be given a conditional offer of employment as a probationary firefighter and begin a 12 to 14-week training program at the Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services facilities.
