Mississauga Marathon collaborates with Scotiabank Charity Challenge

Landmark Sports Group Inc., the organizer of the Mississauga Marathon, is pleased to announce the theme of the 2018 Mississauga Marathon as “Better.Faster.Yours” in celebration of the event’s “15 Years Running” anniversary.  The event has grown since 2004 to include “A Run for Everyone” with races including the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Full Marathon Relay Challenge, MNP 10km, 10km Student Relay, Novo Nordisk “Hazel” 5km and 2km Fun Run/Walk. Close to 10,000 participants took part in 2017’s event.

“The theme of ‘Better.Faster.Yours.’ will be a celebration of all participants of the Mississauga Marathon. This race is all about the participants, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them,” said Race Director Brody Coles.

This “participants first” focus has resulted in very positive feedback from racers. 95 per cent of past participants have said they would run the Mississauga Marathon again, and 97 per cent have said they would recommend the event to a friend. The goal is to make the weekend as stress-free as possible, with free parking and shuttles, well-marked routes and excellent pre-race communications.

“We love to see that participants continue to return to our event,” said Coles. “There are many options for events in the GTA, and it is great to see that year after year, people choose ours.” Some participants have run all 14 annual Mississauga Marathons, with three of these individuals already registered to return for the 2018 weekend.

In conjunction with the 15 year anniversary celebration, Landmark Sports Group Inc. is also thrilled to announce the official launch of the 2018 Mississauga Marathon Scotiabank Charity Challenge for the seventh consecutive year.

Through this initiative, both local and national charities can use the Mississauga Marathon as their fundraising platform with the benefit of receiving 100 per cent of donations with all administrative and processing fees covered by Scotiabank. This allows charities to put their sole focus on recruiting participants and raising funds.

Scotiabank also awards two thousand dollars to the top charity in each of the following categories: charity with the most registered fundraising runners, charity with the largest total dollars raised, and charity with the most raised per registered fundraiser.

When registering, all participants have the option to create a fundraising page for a charity of their choice or make a donation to any of the Mississauga Marathon’s registered charity partners. Coles anticipates yet another highly successful fundraising effort this year. “With us surpassing one million dollars donated in 2017, our charity fundraising program is gaining momentum heading into our 2018 event. We look forward to building upon last year’s total.”

The 2018 Mississauga Marathon is scheduled to take place May 4-6. Race Weekend will include a Health & Wellness Expo that is open to the general public at Port Credit Memorial Arena on May 4 and 5. Registration for the 2018 Mississauga Marathon is now open! Participants may register online at www.mississaugamarathon.com.
