For almost 50 years, Ruth and Richard Hunt have actively served the Bolton community. To honour their service, Kingsview Park was renamed Ruth and Richard Hunt Park at a ceremony on Oct. 20.
“Ruth and Richard have been a staple in our community as service leaders for as long as I can remember,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “Their continued contribution to the community serves as inspiration to others, both young and old. This is another example of how we can all do our part to create a community that we are proud of.”
Since 1970, the Hunts have put forth many community service efforts including founding and chairing the Bolton North Hill Residents Association, coaching youth sports for more than ten years, and initiating, managing and maintaining an outdoor rink at James Bolton School. They also remain active members of the Bolton and District Horticultural Society.
The couple received the Volunteer and Citizen Achievement Award in both 2007 and 2012, plus a Community Recognition Award, in the Environmental Leadership category, in 2017.
The park is adjacent to Humberview Secondary School and boasts a playground and large open area.
