Peel Regional Police are making the public aware of a current scam that is occurring in Mississauga and Brampton. Several incidents have been reported to investigators where an individual is selling what appears to be an authentic iPhone X on several online classified websites. The transactions typically include a fraudulent bill of sale for the iPhone X.
Potential purchasers examine the phone and due to similar characteristics to iPhone X, they believe the item to be authentic. It is only after the transaction is complete and the purchaser attempts to use the phone that they discover it to be fake. Investigators are aware of individuals that have not reported these types of transactions due to embarrassment. Peel Regional Police are encouraging the community to report incidents such as these so investigators can locate the person(s) responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453–2121, ext. 2233. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
When purchasing items through online classified websites, consider the following. Always ask yourself if this is too good to be true? Do not make online purchases from unverified and unknown sources. Use buy and and sell exchange zones provided by Peel Regional Police located at, 11, 12 and 22 Division.
