The Living Arts Centre kicks off its Hot Havana Nights series during Latin Heritage Month with the most sought-after Cuban band led by Alexander Abreu: Havana D’Primera on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. in Hammerson Hall.
“Abreu retains his individual flair even as he smoothly captures the essence of each genre … the arrangements are arguably more intricate and the production more polished than ever,” says La Vuelta Al Mundo radio.
Latin Grammy award-winner Alexander Abreu leads the fifteen all-star Cuban musicians as composer, arranger and vocalist of the group. Abreu is also recognized as one of the greatest trumpet players of his generation.
Abreu handpicked the best musicians over his many years playing in the Cuban capital. Today, the lineup features a full-on orchestra: two trumpets, two trombones, timbales, congas, bongos, guitar, bass, piano and violin. With a fusion of Afro-Cuban folk dance, Cuban pop, American bebop, funk, reggaeton and R&B, Havana D’Primera has revitalized contemporary Cuban music and will get you out on the dance floor.
Prior to the performance, patrons who partake in the Cuban-themed dinner and show package will be transported to the heart of Havana’s club scene. The vibrant Cuban culture experience includes specially prepared Cuban food and drink, vendors, and more. A complimentary Latin dance lesson between dinner and the performance will help work off the meal and get you on the dance floor during the show.
After extensive touring through the U.S., South America, Europe and Asia, Havana D’Primera is poised to become the most popular Cuban group of our time. Don’t miss your only chance to see this award-winning band live on the grand stage at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.
Tickets start at $55 and can be bought at the box office (905-306-6000) or online at livingartscentre.ca.
