Man charged with 45 counts of hate-fuelled mischief

Criminal Investigation Bureau investigators have arrested and laid charges in relation to mischief to property.

In June 2017, police began looking into graffiti written on property in Mississauga that contained derogatory references to Muslims. On Dec. 12, a 58-year-old Mississauga man was detained by Transit Enforcement and turned over to Peel Regional Police. Craig Hanley was arrested and charged with 26 counts of mischief over $5,000 and 19 counts of mischief under $5,000.

He was released on a promise to appear with a court date in January 2019.

Peel Regional Police will consult with the Attorney General’s office in regard to laying hate crime charges.
