Whether or not you have had the pleasure to listen to symphonic music, November and December offer opportunities to experience the talents of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra (MSO).
In November, the orchestra presents Ole! Music of Spain and Latin America. The soul of Spanish music comes to life with Capriccio Espanol, Il Salon Mexico, Malaguena, Danse Boheme and more traditional Spanish songs and tangos. Guest artists in this dynamic concert include Romulo Delgado with the Viva Mexico Mariachi Band and flamenco dancer Kiyo Asaoka.
In December, join the MSO for a concert of highlights from Handel’s masterwork oratorio, Messiah. The brilliant voices of the symphony’s outstanding soloists and the Mississauga Festival Chamber Choir join the orchestra in selections which include the uplifting and iconic Hallelujah Chorus. Featured soloists are Angela Young (soprano), Lillian Brooks (mezzo-soprano), Zachary Rioux (tenor), and Christopher Dunham (baritone).
Also in December, the MSO presents A Merry Little Christmas, a family concert featuring a combined orchestra comprised of MSO and Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) musicians with guest youth choir, Resonance. The concert will include holiday favourites including Sleigh Ride, Joy to the World, Silent Night, Hockey Night in Canada Theme Song and a variety of movie themes. Families may also visit the free Long and McQuade instrument petting zoo in the Living Arts Centre Atrium.
The MSO has been active in Mississauga since 1972 and a resident tenant inside the Living Arts Centre since 1997. With the inclusion of the MSYO in 2013, the organization has become the centre of classical music in Mississauga. Under the direction of Maestro Denis Mastromonaco since 2013, the orchestra continues to offer entertaining and increasingly sophisticated programs from classical and popular repertoires of symphonic music performed to the highest artistic standards.
