Brampton City Council has approved 90 applications for funding through the 2019 Community Grant Program. This more than doubles the number of approved applicants in 2018, when 34 projects and programs received grants.
A total of 106 grant proposals were received during the intake period of December 13, 2018 to January 31, 2019, which represents a 74 per cent increase in applications submitted over last year. The total funding value of the approved grants is $1,530,752, which is greater than the base operating budget of $967,000. Additional funds will be drawn from the Community Grants Surplus Reserve.
The Community Grant Program provides eligible organizations with support to achieve their event or program objectives, build organizational capacity and contribute to community building and the cultural fabric of Brampton. Funding is available for festivals and events, arts and culture programs, sport tourism hosting, and recreation and active living. There is also a funding category for Neighbourhood Initiatives, which continues to accept applications every month until the end of the calendar year or until all funds have been awarded.
“Brampton has such a diverse range of community organizations doing important work to improve all aspects of life in our city. Through the Community Grant Program, we are very pleased to support these organizations, create partnerships and contribute to the cultural mosaic in Brampton,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
All applicants will be contacted regarding the status of their proposal and to coordinate grant agreements with approved recipients. The city is currently conducting a review of the Community Grant Program and looks forward to receiving feedback from this year’s applicants and community stakeholders about how the program can be responsive to community need for future years.
