The Toronto Zoo opened its gates to animal lovers in 1974. Since then, the global extinction rate has soared from one species per year to more than 1,000 per year. Some of the species housed at the zoo no longer exist in the wild.
As a result, Toronto Zoo now has a host of programs designed to save species from extinction.
The Toronto Zoo is dedicated to the financial support of their efforts to conserve species diversity through conservation, education and research. With events like the Oasis ZooRun, 10-kilormetre, five-kilometre Walk and Cub Run, several conservation programs are funded. The run takes place Sept. 22 at the Toronto Zoo.
The five-kilometre start line is located just inside the main entrance. Participants can access the start line beginning at 9:45 a.m., one the 10-kilometre participants have cleared the course. All five-kilometre participants will be organized in coloured corrals based on the expected finishing time you provided on your registration form. Your assigned corral will be indicated by a coloured stripe on your bib. On race day, enter your corral at the coloured flags that correspond to your bib.
Corrals will start four minutes apart to maximize the amount of space participants have at the start, on the course and at the finish line. This is a chip-timed event, so you will still receive your accurate time based on when you cross the start and finish lines.
