One of the wealthiest men in Canada has been made a member of the Order of Canada for his philanthropic efforts in Mississauga.
Carlo Fidani, head of the Orland Corporation with commercial development interests across Peel Region, will receive the honour at ceremonies later this year.
Specially, Fidani is being recognized for his multimillion dollar gift that helped lay the foundation for the Mississauga Academy of Medicine, a learning vehicle for Faculty of Medicine students at the University of Toronto Mississauga, and partnered with Trillium Health Partners hospital system.
Historically, Fidani and his companies have also been a major benefactor to Credit Valley Hospital and the William Osler Health System in Brampton.
Fidani, a Toronto resident, was ranked by Canadian Business Magazine as the 12th richest person in the country in 2017 with net worth valued at $4.89 billion.
The Order of Canada is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed on a Canadian through the government system to recognize outstanding achievement and dedication to the community and service to the nation.
