Peel Region’s proposed 2021 budget

The Region of Peel’s proposed 2021 Budget is now available. Regional Council discussions of the Operating and Capital Budgets begin on Thurs., Jan. 28 at 9:30 am.

The development of the Region’s 2021 Budget was guided by the Strategic Plan and the community priorities recommended for consideration prior to the budget, including additional resources for service level adjustments due to COVID-19.

The proposed 2021 Budget includes investments of $3.7 billion to improve peoples lives in their time of need, ensure communities are integrated, safe and complete, and ensure government is future-oriented and accountable.

These investments support the community by providing:

  • Paramedic response to 135,000 calls
  • 744,000 accessible transportation trips
  • Police response to 248,000 events
  • 590 million litres of safe drinking water each day
  • The management of 552,000 tonnes of waste
  • The maintenance of $30 billion of infrastructure such as roads and buildings

In addition, there are regional programs designed to support Peel’s most vulnerable populations.

The proposed 2021 Budget also includes:

  • Affordable transit subsidies for low income individuals in Brampton and Mississauga
  • Homelessness supports
  • Dental Services to low income seniors
  • Tax relief for low income seniors and those with disabilities

The proposed 2021 Budget reflects $6.4 million in continuous improvement efforts. The Region applies a variety of continuous improvement strategies to ensure the budget is efficient. This work was highlighted when the Region received Excellence Canada’s enterprise wide Platinum level accreditation, the only public sector organization in Canada to achieve such recognition.
