Salvation Army and Region divert 1 million pounds from landfills

The region, its’ residents and the Salvation Army Thrift Store have teamed up to divert 1 million pounds of reusable items from landfills. Donor Welcome Centres (DWCs) at community recycling centres (CRCs) and a thrift store within one has made the donation of clothing, household products and furniture easier.

The Region aims for a 75 per cent waste diversion goal, which has been helped along by the contributions of over 16 thousand residents in 6 months.

“We are extremely grateful to the community and the Region, which have helped us achieve this major milestone,” said Tonny Colyn, National Product Acquisition Manager at The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

  • Brampton: Brampton CRC, 395 Chrysler Dr. and Heart Lake CRC, 420 Railside Dr.
  • Mississauga: Battleford CRC, 2255 Battleford Rd. and Fewster CRC, 1126 Fewster Dr.
