The City of Mississauga wants to pay tribute to its newest tennis star and U.S. Open champion by offering her the key to the City and the unveiling of a street named after her.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie announced Thursday the city will be hosting a rally this Sunday for Mississauga’s own Bianca Andreescu. The “She The North” event will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at Mississauga Celebration Square.
The 19-year-old has rocketed to near the top of women’s rankings after stunning the tennis world with a straight-set, 6-3, 7-5, win over Serena Williams in the final of the U.S. Open in New York last weekend.
The rally, hosted by Selena Singh and Mariah Sousa-Sampson, will feature pre-show entertainment from DJ Andre 905 and Tej Hunjan World Percussionist Live. Then at 5 p.m. Andreescu will be introduced to the crowd, before the Key to the City presentation by the mayor and the unveiling of the “Andreescu Way” street sign.
