It is now legal to purchase and use cannabis for recreational purposes across Canada. Currently, in Ontario, the only way to legally purchase recreational cannabis is online. However, municipalities across the province have the option to allow retail cannabis stores beginning in April 2019. The City of Brampton needs to confirm whether it will allow private retail stores by Jan. 22.
City officials are asking residents for their opinion on whether or not cannabis retail stores should be allowed to operate in Brampton. A telephone survey is seeking input from the public. To complement the survey, an online poll is now available on the city website. The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 9 and the results will form one of many components of a staff report, to be presented to council on Dec. 5.
