Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) will exhibit the Khalsa Day Parade photographic print in honour of Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Michael Awad is the artist who captured the image in Toronto, 2014 during the parade.
The limited edition print provides an interpretation of the local Sikh community in their essence during the parade in the heart of downtown. The majority of people depicted in the image are actual residents of Peel Region.
PAMA art curator, Tom Smart says the photograph “reflects Awad’s uniquely expressive sensibility of documenting this event over the course of the time that the parade took to pass by his camera lens.”
He goes on to say that this “compelling work of art” is a figurative depiction of the Sikh community in its entirety and a symbol of spirituality and identity.
