Skate off that winter lethargy

Exhilarating. That’s the best way to describe outdoor ice-skating.

Peel has some fantastic outdoor rinks, but none rivals Brampton’s 250-metre Gage Park ice trail that loops its way through 100-year-old walnut trees. Right across from city hall, it’s open Sunday through Thursday, 10 to 10; Friday and Saturday 10 to 11. There are heated change rooms, skate and helmet rentals, great music, a seasonal light show, a food trailer Thursday to Sunday and a fire pit for warming the hands and grilling marshmallows and hotdogs.

That’s a lot of healthy family fun and just plain great exercise for anyone. After the skate, plenty of cafes and restaurants have warm seats waiting just up the street.

Municipal parking is free weekday evenings after 7 p.m. and on weekends and holidays in the city hall garage, the West Tower garage, as well as the Market Square, John Street, and Nelson Square garages.
