The Mississauga Steelheads held a two-goal lead midway through the third period, but couldn’t hang as the Hamilton Bulldogs rallied for a 6-5 shootout win in OHL action, Feb. 13, at the FirstOntario Centre.
Keean Washkurak and Alan Lysczarczyk scored a little more than four minutes apart in the third to give the visiting Steelheads a 5-3 lead, but the Bulldogs would rally to send the game into overtime.
Avery Hayes cut the lead to one at 13:42 when the Hamilton rookie batted home a cross-crease pass from Logan Morrison past goaltender Jacob Ingham.
Less than three minutes later, Arthur Kaliyev drew Hamilton even with his second of the game. The top NHL draft prospect one-timed a rocket off a pass in front by Matthew Strome to beat Ingham.
Strome then scored the lone goal of the shootout when he moved to his left on Ingham, but brought the puck back and slid it past the Mississauga goaltender for the winner.
Liam Ham, Cole Carter and James Hardie also scored for Mississauga (26-21-5-2), which had its three-game win streak snapped.
Tim Fleischer and Logan Morrison also scored for Hamilton (25-25-3-2), which moved to within four points of Mississauga for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Steelheads continue their road trek with a Feb. 15 date against the Kingston Frontenacs. Game time is 7 p.m.
