Owen Tippett is now the most prolific scorer in Mississauga Steelheads history.

The Florida Panthers prospect became the franchise’s all-time goal-scoring leader after finding the back of the net, twice, in a 5-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves on Nov. 18 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. The 19-year-old Peterborough native netted his 110th and 111th goals to surpass Darryl Bootland (1998-2002) for the most goals in the 22-year history of the franchise, that began with the expansion Toronto St. Michael’s Majors.

Since being selected fourth overall by Mississauga in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, the six-foot-two, 204-pound right winger, who added a goal and assist in the Steelheads’  7-4 loss in London on Nov. 22, has racked up 112 goals and 86 assists in 177 OHL games through a little more than three seasons.

Florida’s 10th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Tippett’s honours over his junior career include being named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team and helping Canada win gold at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He’s also represented Canada in both the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship, while also suiting up three times for Team OHL in the Canada Russia Series.

Tippett is off to another strong start this season, with 17 goals and 11 assists in 18 games and has helped lead the Steelheads to a 14-8-2 start. After a 5-2 loss to North Bay at home on Nov. 23, the Steelheads, with 30 points, find themselves tied atop the Central Division standings with the Niagara IceDogs and Sudbury.

Adam Varga and Thomas Harley scored for Mississauga, which will look to bounce back Nov. 24 in Sudbury. Game time is 4:05 p.m.

Brad Chenier, with a pair, Adam McMaster, Luke Moncada and Justin Brazeau scored for North Bay.
